WVU head basketball coach Bob Huggins has been released from a Las Vegas hospital, according to a brief statement from university officials Wednesday evening. Huggins had been admitted to the hospital late Friday night after falling and breaking multiple ribs while packing his luggage in his hotel room.
Initial reports were that Huggins had broken four ribs and would be kept in the hospital for precautionary purposes until sometime Saturday, but further tests showed that seven ribs had been fractured, and his stay was extended.
WVU associate head coach Larry Harrison was with Huggins at the time of the accident, but has declined to comment on the situation when contacted by wvillustrated.com. Harrison points to a statement released early Saturday as the only insight he can offer at this time, but the statement - a brief four sentence remark from Athletic Director Oliver Luck - is vague and its information has since been rendered outdated.
"I spoke with Associate Head Coach Larry Harrison this morning who was with coach Huggins recruiting in Las Vegas," says Luck. "Coach Huggins did fall in his hotel room Friday and broke four ribs. He was taken to a Las Vegas hospital and was held overnight for observation. He is expected to be released later today, and we expect him to make a complete recovery."
."He's such a tough guy, so for something to happen to him, it's kind of surprising, but I'm sure he'll be fine," said West. "When stuff happens like that, you don't want things to happen, but that's a part of life. Some things do happen. I hope he's OK."
